Coastal Views of Bridlington

We started the day with a morning beach walk at Bridlington with Sarah and Hazel, the tide well out and plenty of open sand to cover, using the Nordic poles while Hazel tore across the beach with her tongue out. The white cliffs were visible way off in the distance, and the town stretched along the seafront behind us.

“Hazel had a great time — completely in her element, tearing across the beach with her tongue out.”

Got out for a morning walk on the beach at Bridlington with Sarah and Hazel. The tide was out and there was a lot of open sand to cover. Hazel had a great time — completely in her element, tearing across the beach with her tongue out. Sarah and I used the Nordic poles, which made the whole thing feel a bit more purposeful. The town stretches right along the seafront and you could see the white cliffs way off in the distance. Good way to start the day.

History

Bridlington's South Beach has been a popular seaside resort since the railway arrived in 1846, which triggered rapid development of the South Cliff area where Victorian boarding houses still line the seafront today.

“The sea is everything. It covers seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides.”

— Jules Verne, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
