A Day in Millington and Malton

We stopped for lunch at the Millington Gait Inn, a cosy pub in the tiny village of Millington in the Yorkshire Wolds, where a cat asleep in the window box set the tone nicely. Greg, Hazel, and Sarah joined us for a good meal, and someone picked up a sign listing the "5 Deadly Terms Used by a Woman" that made the rounds at the table.

The place had a cat curled up asleep in the window box out front — pretty much the perfect pub mascot. Greg, Hazel, Sarah, and I had a good meal there. Someone picked up a sign on the way out (or nearby in Malton) listing the "5 Deadly Terms Used by a Woman" — the kind of thing that gets passed around the table and gets a laugh.

Geography

Millington is a small village in the Yorkshire Wolds — a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty — tucked into a chalk valley that was carved out by glacial meltwater at the end of the last Ice Age.

“There is nothing which has yet been contrived by man by which so much happiness is produced as by a good tavern or inn.”

— Samuel Johnson, as quoted in Boswell's Life of Johnson
